The Molecule Activity is a fun little learning tool designed to aid Soil Chemistry students in understanding the concept of molecular sheets and how they fit together to form crystal layers.
The first two screens are animations of two molecule types (tetrahedra and octahedra) which help illustrate the relationship between the 3D form of the molecules and their 2D diagrams. I simulated the 3D animation with Flash. The 3rd and 4th screens are interactive pieces, where a learner has to drag and drop molecules to form a correct sheet. You can drag them around, rotate them, flip them over, and snap them into place. Once you get it right, you move onto the next screen (Or, you can just click "The Cheat" button in the bottom corner to have the correct solution constructed for you! ;-) I was able to enlist his help by promising him a trophy. Shhh... don't tell the Brothers Chaps!).
